From the field to the table.

Delicious premium fruits fresh from the field straight to market – bringing our customers 100 of the best fruits and vegetables from 35 growing regions worldwide. Our mission is to provide everyone with the freshest and tastiest fruits and vegetables. And to do so in a way that we can be proud of.

Anyone who works hand in hand with nature knows that it is not always easy to harvest fruit and vegetables of the highest quality. Even our fruit experts cannot prevent sudden storms, extreme cold, heat or drought. But with our strict quality management, it almost always works out.

Our Master Growers.

What’s the first important step for the best fruit and vegetables? The careful selection of our Master Growers and the growing regions!

Without our Master Growers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We have been working in partnership with many of them for decades and they have long been part of the SanLucar family. Often their parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents have also grown juicy oranges, crunchy grapes, aromatic stone fruits or sweet strawberries.

They combine their passion for fruit and their traditional knowledge with modern cultivation methods. Nobody is more familiar with the climate and soil on their plantations or knows more about what the fruits need to be sweet and juicy.

When we have chosen a Master Grower, their cultivation methods have met all of our strict quality requirements – meaning we can harvest the very best fruit and vegetables.

Quality Control.

When it comes to the quality of our fruit, we leave nothing to chance. That’s why our quality check begins on the plantation.

Our agricultural engineers not only check the fruit, they also check compliance with our strict safety, health, social and environmental standards.

After harvesting, our fruits go through up to four selection stages. We only select the fully ripened, undamaged and beautifully shaped fruit for you. Only then are they carefully packed and transported to our trading partners.

In addition, independent and recognised institutes inspect our cultivation methods and our fruits several times a year.

Why do we check them so closely? Because we want to provide everyone with the freshest and tastiest fruit and vegetables.

Best varieties.

What else makes us so special? Our delicious fruit and vegetable varieties, which we select precisely for the respective growing region.

We put a lot of time and effort into their selection. We plant new varieties every year and sometimes test them over a number of years. How do the trees and plants develop? How productive are they? And above all, with our fruits can we “Taste the sun”? We consider all of these questions very carefully, so we find the varieties that prove to be particularly aromatic and resistant. The more resistant a variety is, the less susceptible it is to pests, diseases or periods of drought. And that is good for nature.

Speaking of which, out of respect for nature, our variety developers around the world breed exclusively with the help of natural cross-breeding and completely avoid genetic engineering.

Food Safety.

Food safety is a top priority for us. Our quality managers monitor the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Our general rule is: as little as possible!

We fight pests first and foremost in a natural-biological way. Natural predators, scent traps or biological agents are perfect helpers for us. Only if there is no other way and the harvest or the whole plantation is threatened, we have to use other means.

We record the plant protection products in a cultivation diary. While still in the field and, of course, also after harvesting, we check the fruit for residues and whether it meets all legal requirements and also our high-quality standards. Our guiding principle here is always: “Taste in harmony with man and nature”.

Since we depend on nature in a very special way, we preserve it. Our lemons are only washed after picking, but not waxed or preserved. In many cases, our fruits are also given a natural protective coating. This way we can slow down the ripening process, make the fruits more durable and help not to waste food.

Through the information on the packaging label, we can also trace the grower, the plantation and even the picking date at any time, if desired.

Packaging.

Nature is a great packaging artist. She knows how fruits stay fresh and delicious for a long time. Many fruits, such as bananas or citrus fruits, have a resistant skin that protects the fruit from sun, dirt, and damage. This allows us to offer a large part of our fruit without any packaging at all.

For very delicate fruits, such as berries, you can’t do without them. We tirelessly research environmentally friendly ways to package them. Wherever possible, we try to save plastic and use sustainable, renewable raw materials. They need to be recyclable and keep our fruit fresh, so we don’t waste food. For tomatoes, stone fruit and grapes, for example, we have developed our natural bag made of FSC-certified paper.

Transportation.

We want our fruit and vegetables to always taste freshly picked.

To achieve this, we simply have to stay cool:

After the harvest, our fruit goes to the packing house. There, the best fruit is selected in several rounds, then weighed, packed and cooled. They also remain cool during the entire transportation journey to the markets. We receive real-time information via satellite about the temperature in the container, the humidity, the position and also the route.

This sophisticated just-in-time logistics system, with an unbroken cold chain, guarantees that our fruit from all over the world reaches its destination crisp and fresh.

And to protect the climate, we are also working on moving our transportation to rail. Cool, right?

Environment & Social.

We want to protect nature and the ecosystems that give us such a rich gift every day. That’s why we are mindful of the resources in the growing areas. We recycle our waste, reforest plantations, conserve water and use solar energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

But of course, not only our fruit should be well, but above all the people who work for us. All our pickers have good working conditions, and we pay them fairly and on time. With our social DREAMS projects in the areas of education, health and environment we support the local people. Local suppliers and regional employee acquisition is just as important to us as the promotion of young employees.
