Tips & special notes
- Cut away green spots and sprouts generously: They contain solanine. Heavily sprouted or mostly green potatoes are best discarded rather than eaten.
- Leftover magic: Cooked potatoes from the day before can be turned into crispy fried potatoes, fluffy gnocchi or hearty casseroles the next day.
History
Cultivated over 7,000 years ago in South America, the potato came to Europe in the 16th century. Through famines, and thanks to Frederick the Great, it became a staple food. Today, it’s loved around the world – in every form, colour and flavour.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dark and dry place: The ideal temperature is between 4–10 °C, such as in a cellar.
- Let them breathe: Our paper bags are perfect; alternatively, use a breathable basket or mesh bag.
- Keep away from onions: Their ethylene causes potatoes to sprout faster.
- Avoid the fridge: Cold temps convert starch into sugar and affect the flavour.
