Under the title “Learning together”, the social initiative promoted by the premium fruit and vegetable brand aims to ensure equal and quality education for the children of Puebloviejo (Ecuador).<\/p>\n

The company SanLucar, specialized in the production and distribution of premium quality fruit and vegetables, has been recognized with the “14th RS\/Global Sustainability Week” award. This prize seeks to give visibility to social responsibility practices in organizations, with the aim of inspiring and mobilizing other companies and entities towards the path of sustainability and CSR.<\/p>\n

SanLucar has received the award for its school support program “Learning together”. With this initiative, the fruit and vegetable enterprise seeks to minimize the academic differences that, for various reasons, occur among the children of Puebloviejo, where the firm owns its own banana production farm.<\/p>\n

“The school support program was born during the pandemic when it became clear that many children lacked access to computers or internet and were unable to follow the online classes given during the lockdown,” explains Nancy Daiss, project manager and CR Manager International at SanLucar. \u201cToday – she adds – we are carrying on with the project considering the existence of other learning barriers for the children, such as belonging to dysfunctional families or missing homework support\u201d.<\/p>\n

“We are very grateful for the recognition of this award, and we would like to extend it to the Miguel Su\u00e1rez Seminario School and the Reina de Belleza de Ecuador, who have accompanied us from the beginning in the project,” says Daiss.<\/p>\n

Currently, 80 children between the ages of 8 and 14 in the municipality of Puebloviejo benefit from the program. With it, the children reinforce their knowledge in subjects such as language or mathematics, as well as improving other competencies like social skills. The classes also contribute to creating a routine and discipline in the children’s learning, as well as transmitting values such as team spirit and respect. The program also includes different workshops such as nutrition, as well as a Christmas party for the participants.<\/p>\n

“It is a great satisfaction for us that 12 students have already reached the optimal level to graduate and leave school support for good,” says Daiss.The “Learning Together” initiative is part of SanLucar’s commitment to the United Nations Global Compact and its Sustainable Development Goals, contributing with the project to SDG 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 17 “Partnerships for the goals”. The project is also part of SanLucar’s corporate responsibility program DREAMS, with which the company promotes social and environmental projects locally that have direct benefits for its employees, their families and the communities surrounding its various locations worldwide.<\/p>\n
