“A meal without a delicious ‘Farmers Salad’ is not one for me!” laughs picker María Fernandez. “I just love the fresh taste and the crunchy bite,” she enthuses, carefully cutting a head of lettuce from the field.

If you love salads like María, you’ve come to the right place. In the region around the Spanish city of Murcia, our Master Growers take care of our “Farmers Salad” with great sensitivity.

You can choose between mini lettuce hearts with crunchy sweetness, refreshingly tender red caribou and delicately sweet romaine lettuce. Country of origin:

Our crunchy, mild and refreshing lettuces come for example from Spain from October to May. We harvest them in Germany from September to May.

Tips and special features:

For the perfect salad, the dressing should only be poured over the salad just before eating. Otherwise, soft salad leaves could quickly collapse and look unsightly.

History:

Lettuce was already being cultivated in ancient Egypt around 2680 BC. The Greeks and Romans valued it as an appetiser and remedy. During the Renaissance, it found its way into sophisticated cuisine. With industrialisation, lettuce became known and important worldwide.

Storage:

Lettuce should always be washed thoroughly and then dried well. The easiest way to do this is with a salad spinner. It is best stored in the vegetable compartment of the fridge, wrapped in a damp paper towel to retain moisture. To avoid bruising, the lettuce should not be compressed, as this will cause it to spoil more quickly.
