A sweet and juicy pleasure – always.

“Pears are like little treasures,” says Toni smiling from his ladder, “they like to be treated gently.” Here, in the sunny south-west of Germany, Toni and his team harvest the ripe and sweet fruit with the utmost care.

They carefully place the pears in padded baskets to avoid any damage. The conditions here are ideal – the sun pampers the fruit, the climate is mild and the rain is sparse.

You can get such wonderfully delicious and juicy pears from us all year round. That’s why we grow pears not only in Germany, but also in Italy, South Africa, Spain and Chile, for example. In these countries, the pears thrive in typical pear-growing regions with perfect planting conditions and develop the best flavour for each variety. With us, you can choose from different varieties and be sure that they will always taste great. This is due to the experience and passion of our long-standing Master Growers and our respect for Mother Nature. We protect the soil, value the bees and use renewable energy. And insects help us to protect the pears in a natural way. The result is juicy delicacies that make every bite a pleasure. “Actually, I always snack on pears,” Toni reveals with a smile.

Our pears

Good to know

Pears should not be stored together with apples. This is because they emit the ripening gas ethylene, to which pears are very sensitive.

Preservation

Pears continue to ripen after harvesting. Unripe pears should be stored at room temperature until they are ripe. Ripe pears are best kept in the vegetable drawer of the fridge. Cut into pieces and mixed with sugar and lemon juice, pears can also be frozen.

Country of origin

We grow our delicious pears for example in Italy, South Africa, Germany, Spain and Chile. And as we harvest in both hemispheres, we have sweet pears all year round.

Tips & special features

The versatility of pears makes them a highlight in the kitchen – whether as a refreshing snack, in salads, as an accompaniment to cheese or in desserts. Their fine aroma and delicate texture add a special touch to any dish.

History

The pear has a long history. Originally from Persia and Armenia, there is evidence of its use as early as the Neolithic age in Germany. The Greek Homer called it the “gift of the gods”, and in Babylonia the pear tree was considered sacred.
