Chic in skin, mild in taste.
“When I’m with my onions, I’m always in tears. But only with joy!” laughs our Master Grower Daniel Molina. “I’m happy to see them grow and thrive and, above all, I look forward to their delicious taste. Because all my onions taste particularly mild and give my favourite dishes a very special touch.”
Daniel Molina has been growing the spicy vegetable in France, Spain and Holland passionately since the 1980s. He knows exactly which soil and climate is good for which onion variety.
The onions start sprouting as early as spring. When the leaves of the onions turn dry and yellow in summer and start to bend, the nutrients have migrated from the leaves into the onions and their growth is complete. Molina’s employees then swarm out to pull the aromatic onions – very carefully and by hand. And this is best done in mild, sunny weather. The onions are then left to dry before being carefully packed and sent on their way.
And so you too can look forward – with or without tears – to our extra-mild sweet onions, delicately spicy fine onions and spicy-sweet gourmet onions for your delicious recipes. Enjoy your meal!

History
It is still not clear whether the onion as a cultivated plant comes from West Asia or North Africa. Around 3500 BC, Egypt was a major onion-growing region. The pyramid workers used them as food alongside radishes and garlic.
Country of origin
Our extra-fine onions come for example from Brittany. Our spicy gourmet onions grow in Spain, Holland and France. And we harvest mild sweet onions in Spain and Peru.
Tips and special features
If your onions sprout, they are still edible. They may taste a little more bitter. You can use the green shoots like spring onions.
If your hands smell of onions, apply lemon juice to them or rub them on stainless steel – you can do this with stainless steel soap or with taps. This will get rid of the smell quickly
Storage
Onions like to be stored in a cool, dry and dark place. The best place to store them is in the cellar or pantry. You can also place them in a bowl and put them in a darker place in your kitchen. In any case, the onions should always be well ventilated and not stored next to potatoes. These give off a ripening gas that causes the onions to spoil more quickly.
